A new report from MPs finds that poorly maintained and badly lit pavements, and a lack of public toilets and places to rest make it difficult for older people to be active in day-to-day life. 

Legislation to enable local leaders to prohibit pavement parking in England has been included in the English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill.

It’s been two years since Wales became the first UK nation to set a default speed limit of 20mph in residential areas. The new legislation came into effect in September 2023 and meant that roads that previously operated as 30mph areas reduced to 20mph.
