NHS to reward people who walk - comment
NHS England will launch a "marathon a month" challenge, asking people to walk for around 30 minutes a day, with those who complete the challenge eligible for rewards.
Living Streets is the UK charity for everyday walking, working to achieve a better walking environment to inspire people to walk and wheel more. The charity’s #Try20 tips aim to help people fit more walking into their daily lives.
Tanya Braun, Director of External Affairs, Living Streets comments:
“It’s fantastic to see recognition for the power walking and wheeling has to improve the nation’s health. Walking is one of the easiest ways to get active, but the freedom is denied to many of us. Women are less likely to be active than men, and disabled people and those with long-term health conditions are also less active. As well as encouraging people to walk more, we need to be making it easier and safer for them to do so.
“Physical inventions like better street lighting and well-connected walking routes are needed to help create more inclusive streets, as well as ensuring our pavements are free from obstructions. This initiative has the potential to transform the lives of many, and we stand ready to help NHS England to get as many people as possible reaping its rewards.”
