The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has today (22 February 2021) launched the new London Schools Pollution Helpdesk.
The service is free to use for all London schools and is part of plans to clean up toxic air at schools in the worst polluted areas of the capital.
Mary Creagh, CEO of Living Streets, the charity behind the UK’s biggest walk to school programme, said:
“The school run is responsible for half a million tonnes of CO2 emissions annually in the UK, the same as Greenland’s entire economy. Walking to school is a quick and easy way to reduce emissions.
“We welcome the launch of the Mayor’s helpdesk to create safer, greener streets for the capital’s children and hope many more schools will use our WOW walk to school challenge to reduce pollution outside schools across London.”
