Public health. Air pollution. Climate change. Transport. Road safety.
These are all big issues affecting our towns and cities, and reducing car dominance and making walking the easiest and safest option for everyday journeys is a key part of the solution.
we need to choose walking. Agree? Join our campaign
If there's a regional, mayoral or council election near you, we have everything you need to put walking on the agenda where you live.
Help us get our Manifesto for Walking out there during your local election campaign.
We have different ways you can do this depending on where you live - be it writing to your candidates, or sending a letter to your local paper.
Our online form makes it simple...
We have a tailored manifesto for the Welsh Senedd election too.
Our tailored Manifesto for people in Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford or Wigan...
... the Wirral, Halton, Sefton, Knowsley or St Helens? This tailored manifesto is for you.
We are calling on all election candidates to commit to create communities and streets where:
We need 20mph speed limits, improved crossings and junctions, more low-traffic neighbourhoods and Vision Zero targets.
We need a country where people can move and can breathe. And we need to get to net zero carbon emissions by 2050. To address the climate emergency, councils must improve access to public transport and ensure the cost of driving reflects its true cost.
We must transform routes to school so they are safer, cleaner and less congested. Walking to school sets healthy habits for life. With one in four cars at the morning peak on the school run, it cuts carbon emissions and air pollution too.
More people will walk when streets are safer, accessible and welcoming to everyone. Supporting large networks of healthy neighbourhoods with car-free areas, and investing in new public green spaces will improve quality of life and climate resilience.
