Welcome to Move Makers

Thanks for taking part in the Move Makers pilot. You’re among the first schools helping to shape the new school travel challenge from Living Streets. Move Makers inspires pupils to travel actively and sustainably by combining simple daily logging with friendly competition and fun rewards.  

This page gives you everything you need to launch and run the challenge in your school, along with downloadable resources. 

It's easy to take part in Move Makers. Just follow our five simple steps below.

 Step 1

Access the Move Makers platform using your log-in   details. Use the admin guide to set up your classes read to start logging.

 Step 2

The first five days of logging take place in practice mode. This helps classes learn the system and sets a baseline before the challenge begins.

Pupils should record their normal mode of travel in practice mode, without being encouraged to walk/wheel, cycle or scoot. Once each class completes five days of logging, the challenge begins! 

Step 3

Now it’s time to begin the Move Makers challenge! Give each class taking part a classroom guide, a classroom poster and points explainer poster. 

Use the launch presentation in class or assembly to introduce Move Makers to pupils and build excitement.  

Share the parent/carer letter with your school community, downloadable from your Move Makers dashboard.  

 Step 4

At the end of each month, use the scores automatically calculated by Move Makers to award: 

  • The mini Strider mascot to the winning class (based on points per pupil) for the next month.  

  • Gold, silver and bronze stickers to the top three scoring pupils in each class. 

  • The special green Change Maker award for the pupil who had the most improved score in each class.  

 Step 5

The challenge begins again for the next month!

Move Makers is a new school travel challenge from Living Streets that encourages pupils to travel to school in more active and sustainable ways.  

Pupils log their journeys each day, earn points, and take part in a monthly class challenge with fun, inclusive rewards.  

We are inviting a small number of schools to pilot Move Makers before it’s rolled out nationally, in return for some feedback on the experience.  

  • Encourage healthier, more active travel habits among families 

  • Reduced congestion and car use around the school gate 

  • Improved pupil focus in class 

  • Supports sustainability and climate priorities 

  • Makes active travel fun through teamwork and rewards 

  • Fits with existing in-school reward systems, such as marbles in jar, golden time etc.  

Pilot schools will need to: 

  • Nominate a Move Makers Champion to coordinate the challenge 

  • Encourage pupils to log their journey to school each day over the summer term – usually as children arrive in the morning  

  • Celebrate the monthly challenge within the school 

  • Share your feedback to help improve the programme. 

Just a device with internet access and a modern web browser. The pilot version of Move Makers is optimised for tablets, but also works on laptops, interactive whiteboards and classroom tablets. The display may look slightly different on large screens, but all features work the same.  

Pupils select their name from the board, then choose the travel mode they took that day. There are daily celebrations for logging, and monthly celebrations for engagement and active travel.  

Logging in the morning as pupils arrive helps them remember their travel mode and keeps the process brief.  

Teachers can use batch mode and a quick hands-up survey if time is really short.

Pupils collect points for every journey logged, so everyone can contribute to class totals. Higher points are awarded active travel modes. 

The rewards are class‑based to encourage teamwork, rather than competition between individuals 

The winning class is calculated using points per pupil (PPP). This ensures fairness for different class sizes. 

Yes; no pupil accounts or passwords are required and schools can choose whether to use pupil first names or icons for journey logging.

There is a bespoke parent/carer portal for each school, showing points and progress for each class. Schools can generate a parent/carer letter from the dashboard, including a link/QR code to the portal.

Yes. The Move Makers trial is free for invited schools.

Pilot schools will receive a Move Makers resource pack and ongoing coordinator support during the trial.

Move Makers is being tested with real schools to make sure it works well in everyday school settings and inform the final product.
