Cambridge Local Group

JOIN US IN PERSON FOR OUR 2025 AGM

We're delighted to invite you to join us for the 4th Annual General Meeting of Cambridge Living Streets group. We will be meeting in person at 5.30pm on Tuesday 25 November at St Andrew's Baptist Church, 40-43 St Andrew's Street, Cambridge, CB2 3AR.

We will have tea, cake, and the AGM will be followed by a keynote address from Rachel Lee, author of Slips, Trips, and Falls report. This will be followed by a Q&A and we will finish at 7.30pm. Looking forward to seeing you there!

CAMBRIDGE IS A BEAUTIFUL, HISTORIC CITY, IDEAL FOR WALKING, BUT INVESTMENT IN PEDESTRIAN INFRASTRUCTURE HAS LAGGED BEHIND AS THE CITY HAS GROWN. WE NEED TO SHIFT THE BALANCE SO WALKING AND WHEELING BECOME SAFE, PLEASANT AND PRACTICAL FOR ALL OUR EVERYDAY JOURNEYS.

In many residential areas of the city the environment for pedestrians remains challenging due to a combination of high traffic levels, narrow pavements and poor maintenance.

For buggy and wheelchair users, young children and infirm or sight-impaired travellers, negotiating street clutter, pavement parking and overgrown hedges has become a real hazard.

Our goal is to transform the walking and wheeling environment so that walking and wheeling really are top of the transport hierarchy.

We know that walking improves health and connects communities. But we need much more work to make it safe and pleasant.

WHAT WE'RE DOING

Living Streets Cambridge group works to highlight problems faced by walkers and wheelers, and help to provide pedestrian-friendly solutions. We campaign for more investment in streets, crossings and pedestrian infrastructure. We engage with the Combined Authority, Greater Cambridge Partnership, local councils, committees and expert groups to strengthen the pedestrian voice in local transport and infrastructure policy-making.

Everybody needs safe walking and wheeling routes. Cambridge city council active travel funding has helped us to build a strong group and we are still growing! In recognition of our work we were honoured to be nominated as a Mayor’s Charity 2025-2026 and we were able to have stalls at local music events as well as many local festivals. You can join us at our last stall of 2025 at the Mill Road Winter Fair on Saturday, 6th December. We’ll be on Petersfield Green (CB1, off East Rd).

We have a website; come and learn about our planned walks, current campaigns and key news items. You can join up and get news about local events and have walks details emailed to you. Our interactive walking routes are available to access and use on the site.

Join us to help transform the walking and wheeling environment of Cambridge!
