CHALKERS LANE ACTION LOCAL GROUP
We are a small but committed group of residents who want to protect families and other users of Chalkers Lane. We need improvements to keep our children safe.
We are a growing community, with more families moving into the area every month. However, we are not safe to walk, wheel and cycle on our streets. Two children have been hit by cars on Chalkers Lane, and with no footpath, we are forced to walk in the road to reach essential services, schools and nurseries. We are urgently calling on the County Council to improve safety.

What we’re doing
Crashes are occurring on our road at least once or twice a year. In the last month we have experienced multiple near misses… even whilst pushing young children in prams and wearing hi-vis jackets.
For years, local families have been asking for safety improvements, including speed reduction and traffic calming measures. We have repeatedly been turned down. As a result, locals are forced to drive short distances of 2-5 minutes instead of risking walking, wheeling, or cycling. Safe routes would lead to cleaner air, less congestion, safe travel and ultimately a stronger and healthier community.
We are urging the council to:

Install a footpath along Chalkers Lane, connecting Danworth Lane with existing off-road routes into Hurstpierpoint.

Implement additional safety measures to support us safely walking, wheeling and cycling around our streets.
