BARNET LOCAL GROUP

Barnet Living Streets Group is dedicated to improving walking routes in the London Borough of Barnet.

We focus on walking routes within the borough, particularly the northern area and also walking routes from the London Borough of Barnet out into Hertfordshire.

Some walking routes in London Borough of Barnet have been severed due to motorway and trunk road building and widening in the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.

WHAT WE'RE DOING

Barnet Living Streets Local Group campaigns for:

  • Clearing the backlog of footway and footpath maintenance, replacing missing footpath signs and restoring existing walking routes that are overgrown, obstructed or unsafe.
  • Creating new and safe road crossing points or bridges to restore walking routes that have been severed by building motorways or trunk roads.
  • Improving through routes for walking as a means of transport as well as leisure walking, working with The Ramblers where these include public footpaths.
  • Removing overhanging vegetation that obstructs or restricts pavements, highway footways or other footpaths.

We also work with Footways London and London Living Streets.to extend the Footways London map out into the London Borough of Barnet.
