Elections 2026

STEP FORWARD

for Scotland and Wales
on 8 May

Living Streets is calling on new Governments in the Scottish Parliament and Welsh Parliament to deliver safer, cleaner and liveable streets - in what are billed to be seismic elections in both nations.

Step forward for Wales

A Wales where everyone can walk and wheel – what can the Senedd do?

The people of Wales are fed up with more and more traffic, neglected pavements, inconsiderate driver behaviour and dangerous streets at night. We deserve better.

On 7 May, 96 new Members of the Senedd will be elected. Everyone deserves to be able to walk and wheel safely around their neighbourhood and Living Streets Cymru are calling on the new Welsh Government to make a real difference to our streets.

Our five steps forward for Wales are:

  1. Get cars off pavements

  2. Fix our pavements

  3. Make sure children are safe walking to school

  4. Tackle inconsiderate drivers and riders

  5. Improve our high streets

Make Scotland a walking and wheeling nation

Living Streets Scotland and Walking Scotland are calling on the 129 new Members of the Scottish Parliament to embrace ‘The Power of Walking’.

Walking is one of the best ways to address some of the greatest challenges of our time, including health inequalities, physical inactivity, and the climate-nature emergency.

To deliver Scotland’s healthier, greener future, Living Streets Scotland and Walking Scotland are calling on all parties to take four steps forward on 8 May and support Scotland to be a walking and wheeling nation:

  1. Put walking and wheeling at the heart of government

  2. Invest in walking and wheeling

  3. Prioritise walking and wheeling in communities

  4. Improve safety for walking and wheeling
