To celebrate International Walk to School Month, Living Streets launched a Walk to School banner competition with WOW schools across Durham.

Children walking

Pupils were asked to come up with creative designs that would encourage their friends and family to walk to school.

100’s of amazing designs were submitted and thanks to funding from The Catherine Cookson Charitable Trust, judges were able to select 4 to be made up into Walk to School railing banners to be displayed on the school gates.

In hearing the exciting news about the winning designs, Emma Fagan, a Teacher at South Stanley Infant and Nursery school said, ‘We are so proud to hear that we have a winner and a runner up in the Walk to School banner competition, this is amazing news. Our pupils will be very excited to see the big unveiling of the banner in November’

Congratulations to the winning pupils of the Living Streets Walk to School banner competition. It was fantastic to see so many children taking part and showing their enthusiasm for walking to school. Embedding active travel habits from a young age is invaluable and we look forward to a continued partnership with Living Streets to achieve this.
