Dame Jane Roberts has today (8 June 2021) announced that Mary Creagh will be stepping down as CEO of Living Streets at the end of June 2021.
Since joining Living Streets last year, Mary has boosted the charity’s profile and extended its political network. She has also played a central role in the securing of a £2.1m grant from the Department for Transport last month to support children to walk to school across England.
Mary Creagh said:
“It has been a privilege to lead Living Streets. We can look back with pride at what we have achieved together, raising the charity’s campaigning profile, launching paid membership, and a new look annual report.
“After nearly a year, I have decided to focus on my passion for campaigning on climate change and social justice and to further the work that I am doing in this sphere.
“I am grateful for the energy, dedication and commitment of my colleagues and look forward to Living Streets going from strength to strength”.
Dame Jane Roberts, Chair of Living Streets’ Board of Trustees, said:
“Despite the challenges of Covid, Mary has been a tireless campaigner for Living Streets and has amplified the charity’s voice, press profile, and political campaigning and I thank her warmly. She has successfully launched our new five-year strategy, a new-look annual report, and championed paid membership in order to diversify the charity’s finances.
“Under her leadership, we’ve started to develop our thinking on climate change and further our work on equalities, inclusion and diversity, and only last month, we were delighted at the announcement that we had secured a £2.1m Walk to School Outreach grant for the next year. We’re looking forward to building on these foundations in the months to come.”
Stephen Edwards, currently Director of Policy and Communications, will step up to act as Interim Chief executive from 1 July whilst a permanent replacement is sought. Stephen has overseen the charity’s external communications, public affairs, policy and campaigning activities since joining Living Streets in 2018.
