Living Streets' PR team has been named 'PR team of the year' at the Charity Times Awards.

The Charity Times Awards celebrates best practice in the UK charity sector with the PR team of the year winners required to demonstrate proven success in real PR terms, such as extensive press and media coverage.

Tanya Braun, Head of Policy and Communications and Kathryn Shaw, Communications and Media Manager make up the PR team at Living Streets. Tanya and Kathryn attended the awards which took place at Park Plaza Westminster Bridge on Wednesday, 2 October.

The award was presented in recognition of the 'small but mighty' team's ability to overcome working with limited resources by staying on top of the news agenda and working across communication channels, achieving PR results in the same league as much larger charities as a result.

The award submission references Living Streets' flagship National Walking Month campaign which takes place every May, managed in-house by the PR team with support from a cross-departmental working group.

Tanya Braun, Head of Policy and Communications, Living Streets comments:

"The award is the result of hard work from everyone in our Policy and Communications department and the wider Living Streets team.

"As an organisation, we finished National Walking Month stronger than we’ve ever been. Our staff across the UK pulled together to help the PR team achieve our goals, and this culture continues beyond May.

"A win for our PR team of two is shared with a staff of 80+, who went above and beyond to make some real noise this National Walking Month."

Living Streets was also nominated for its unique initiative in Birmingham, which aimed to support staff from a local company to tackle social isolation amongst over 65s.

‘Wythall Walking Friends’ saw a group of staff volunteers from life and pension firm, Phoenix Group trained by Living Streets to run a series of led walks in their local community for older adults. Following the successful trial of the Walking Friends initiative in Birmingham, it was launched nationwide by Living Streets.
