22 September is World Car Free Day, when all around the world towns and cities will be allowing people to experience streets free of motor traffic.

Car Free Cardiff

Here's just a little of what we will be up to in the UK

City of London

We will be out in force just up the road from our main office in the City of London, where Bank Junction (itself no stranger to experiments in traffic reduction) will be freed up for people to explore on foot and cycle.

The centrepiece of our stall will be an award winning pop-up parklet designed by Hackney Living Streets Group.

What's on?

On-street workshop

Brenda Puech, Hackney Living Streets Gorup will host a live on-the-street parklet workshop at 3pm with tips on how to replicate the success she has had in East London.

Led walks:

12.15pm, starts at the parklet in St John St and ends at Bank Junction. London Living Streets Group will lead a walk along part of the proposed Central London Walking Network - characterful, historic streets which link together key destinations.  There will be a special opportunity to visit the ancient church of Bartholomew the Great in Smithfield.

2.00pm, starts and ends at Living Streets parklet on Cornhill. London Living Streets Group will lead a walk around City of London.

Look for us on Cornhill, 10.30am-5pm.

Start your own Parklet with our handy hacks and guide.

At our Living Streets stall we can offer you all the information and helpful starting points to transform your street into a place for seating, cycle parking or lanes, gardens, play areas or art.

Anyone can set up a parklet or a pop-up park to transform streets into a vibrant community hot spot. You’ll need permission from your local council, but after that, it can be easier than you might think. Why not work together with your neighbours to improve your local area for everyone who lives there?

Come and find us for inspiration and our step by step guide to creating a parklet.
