Walking Works: The Walk To Work CampaignThis campaign is focused on helping people to build more walking into their daily commute. It is estimated that only 30% of adults are actually getting enough exercise. Walking can be a great way of increasing this, while making you feel better, and saving you money on the gym! Walking is also a reliable and quick way of getting around, especially in the rush hour. Living Streets also provides information and advice to businesses that are interested in increasing physical activity in their workforce and to local authorities promoting sustainable travel. Thousands of commuters in the capital decided to make their journey to work on foot, making the event a huge success. See the photos from Walk to Work Day 2008 here. Walk to Work Week 2009We are pleased to announce that Walk to Work Day will next year become Walk to Work Week, and it will take place on 27 April to 1 May 2009. We've extended the day to a week-long event to give local authorities and businesses more flexibility about when they take part, and so more people than ever can join in. Why 27 April to 1 May 2009? Walk to Work Week takes place in April because it's the start of spring: a time when more people are thinking about being outdoors. Following consultation with stakeholders back in August 2008, we found that there was an even split between those wanting the event in April, and those wanting it in May. As National Walk to School Week takes place in May every year, we have kept Walk to Work Week in April so the two events do not clash, but we have moved it closer to May for those who want to start walking promotions in April and run them through to Walk to School Week in May. What is the theme? The theme is currently being finalised, and more information will be available on this page from January 2009. What resources will be available? We'll be taking orders for resource sales in February/March, and more information will be available from January 2009. Want to be kept up to date? Sign up to the Walking Works e-Bulletin to be kept up to date with announcements, or come along to the Living Streets' Walking Works conference on 28 January 2009. ^^GO TO TOP^^
