Shrewsbury is the county town of Shropshire and is built on a hill almost completely surrounded by the River Severn. This was ideal for defence against the Welsh (Offa's Dyke having proved a failure), but has obvious drawbacks when vehicles and pedestrians compete for space in narrow medieval streets. Bypasses have been built on three sides of the town but the completion of the ring road, well outside the river, is controversial and not yet agreed or financed.

We do not have a branch in the town, but we are pleased that we have a local Contact. Peter's priorities are:

  1. Reduce litter and dog fouling in Shrewsbury.
  2. Reduce dangerous cycling on footpaths.

Our contact, Mr Dunham, is also actively involved with the Tidy Shrewsbury Group, which is an area that obviously overlaps with Living Streets.
