NEXT MEETING
Our next meeting will be our AGM and Local Council Election hustings on Monday 12th April at 7.30pm at Islington Town Hall, Upper St, London N1.
We will start with our branch business, followed by an open session (Council Election Hustings) followed by informal chat over refreshments. AGM business will include reports from officers, including receipt and adoption of accounts for the year, and election of Branch Chair, Honorary Secretary and Honorary Treasurer and other committee officers.
The open session will be our chance to question candidates from the main political parties – Conservative, Green, Labour and Liberal Democrat – about their policies and plans of interest to Living Streets. We want to be able to sort out the differences between the parties – if there are any - so do start thinking of some challenging questions.
BRANCH INFORMATION
The branch has two general meetings a year - the AGM in the summer and a Christmas meeting in December, each with an outside speaker. We also have meetings on particular topics, either just local members or "when asked" with the Council or others.
We circulate to branch members a local newsletter 3 times a year, reporting on local activities and raising local issues.
We are also consulted regularly by the Council on a variety of issues. These are mainly transport related matters: - traffic management schemes, controlled parking zones and planning policy and proposals. Whenever time allows we make sure that we consult those branch members living in or near an area for which there are proposals. Currently we are involved in working on Islington as 20 mph borough and also in giving evidence to the Council's Sustainability Review Committee about problems for pedestrians of illegal behaviour of cyclists (see Read the News below).
If you would like to know more please get in touch and do think about becoming a supporter. The more supporters we have the more information we obtain about what concerns people on foot and the more ideas we gain about improvements which could be made to create real Living Streets in Islington.
