Hackney is fortunate to retain a great network of streets, spaces, and parks, having been spared (with a few exceptions) many of the intrusive highway engineering interventions suffered by other London boroughs in the post-war years.

We benefit from a forward thinking Council (Officers and Elected Representatives) who have put walking and cycling at the top of their agenda and taken the steps to back this up.

By working with the council, residents' groups, and others, we hope to inspire Hackney to reach even greater heights. We aim to be the council's critical friend, supporting them when they need it and campaigning more visibly on issues that we think matter.

We have a vibrant and active group in Hackney, and are always on the look-out for new volunteers. To take part in the mailing list discussions please email: livingstreetshackney@yahoogroups.com

Latest News from Hackney

We've recently been very active with the 20mph campaign in Hackney. After just two stalls in Broadway and Stoke Newington markets, we've managed to collect over 300 letters from residents, calling upon their local councillors to support, at full council on 9th April, a motion for a 20mph default speed limit in the borough.
