State of our streets
Why is the state of our streets so crucial?
People care about the state of their streets: they are the one local service that everyone uses. Where streets are well maintained and attractive, we tend to walk more, feel safer, support more local businesses and take more pride in our neighbourhoods.
These are difficult economic times - but this makes it all the more important to give everyone a fair deal, meet basic expectations, communicate effectively and make budgets go further. Living Streets is calling on the government to make sure councils have the powers they need to keep streets up to scratch, while supporting councils and communities in working together to make streets safer and more attractive.

The streets where i live are awfull,i agree regarding dog poo its awfull,i have dog ofmy own and i always clear up after her,i dont see what the poblem is it only takes few seconds. But its the humans who are to blame,SPIT it makes me feel ill,i wash my dogs paws as soon as we get home, can you imagin the germs they carry because of people spitting?rubbish dumping is another problem, and people leaving out there wheely bins for weeks on end so lazy, and of course the parking on the pavements,i am unable to get off my drive because of a lorry thats choosen to park every day,it blocks my veiw and have on 2 ocassions almost had accidents with oncomeing traffic because of the blind spot,i now have to ask passers by to guide me out,and pedestrians have to walk out int the road because this lorry is parked on most of the pavement.this cant e right surely!!why is there never traffic patrol about.?
Parking, dog mess, oh i could go on our streets are a mess and no one cares it seems i am fighting a loosing battle to try and make my street safer for my 4yr old, police don't move the cars just let thempark illegally on the pavement cause who cares about our kids that have to try and cross roads with these obstructions, prams can't be puhed on pavements have to take them on the road, the little girl in the wheel chair having to travel to school down the middle of the road.... Oh there a car behind you while you pushing your buggy down the mddle of the road you have to run out there road yet there the reason you can't walk on the pavement.... OH I HAVE HAD ENOUGH!!
Dog mess has become a really big problem on our footpaths that and how uneven the flag stones are.
What really bugs me is the (non) clearing of footpaths during snowy & icy weather.
We often get advised not to drive due to the dangerous conditions of the roads, yet the roads get cleared, and the pavements don't. So the options are usually
-Walk in the road because the pavements are dangerous
-Drive.
Every morning walking my children to school we end up playing the Olympic sport of Dog Poo Slalom. I would love to see more done to clean up the streets and the Dog Poo dumped on them by local people who don't care about their area or those who live in them. Please can you help make a differance.
Thanks
Cris
I hate having to step into the road with pram the because the pavement is blocked by people with lovely well tended gardens who let their lovely bushes, shrubs and trees grow out of the boundaries of the garden. Yes they do look nice so I feel a bit of a kill joy but it annoys me that I have to step into the road to pass them.
Something far worse than dog muck on the street is dog muck in plastic bags thrown in to bushes, hung on fences and trees etc. They may as well not bother picking it up in the first place. I would not like to be the one who eventually has to clear it up after it has been festering for a few weeks. Disgraceful!!!
Problem's which affect my street the most are derelict/ boarded up houses and lack of public bins to accommodate litter.
My local streets are full of dog muck. There are far too many inconsiderate owners who don't clear up after their animals. If you can't be bothered, DON'T have a dog. There should be more cleanups and enforcements on such things.
Maybe an additional tax for dog owners?
