SOUTHWARK LOCAL GROUP

Southwark Living Streets campaigns to achieve a safe, attractive and accessible walking and wheeling environment in the London Borough of Southwark.

WHAT WE DO

We are a group of volunteers with extensive experience of campaigning. We raise awareness of barriers to walking and highlight good practice in order to make positive change, under the umbrella of the national charity Living Streets. We campaign to make active travel safer and reduce road danger. We work collaboratively with other like minded groups and in critical but constructive engagement with Southwark Council and local Councillors.

The Walworth low traffic neighbourhood is the result of previous campaigns to reduce motor vehicle traffic and to introduce healthy streets in Walworth. Walking and cycling short journeys is now safer for residents, and air pollution has reduced. In this blog spot, Jeremy Leach from Southwark Living Streets explains the benefits which reducing traffic has brought to his neighbourhood, an area with a large amount of social housing.

We are also very proud of our past Chair Peter Wright’s creation of the Walworth Green Links walk.
