Love your city this summer! Here at Living Streets, we love summer in the city....soaking up the sunshine, meeting friends in the park, and making the most of being outside. But some things we don't enjoy: too much traffic, pollution and streets that make you feel unsafe as you walk around.
Living Streets works to bring our streets to life, with more walking in people-friendly public spaces. We work for streets that put people first, and run projects to transform neighbourhoods, get people walking more and help lower the pollution pumped out by city traffic. We've been around for nearly 80 years now. In this time, we've achieved some amazing stuff (even if we do say so ourselves). As the Pedestrian's Association, our early campaigns led to the introduction of the Highway Code (in 1931), Speedometers (in 1932) and the UK driving test (in 1935). We are still making a massive difference - for example, two million children a year take part in our Walk to School Campaign. And we continue to campaign for the needs of people on foot - like our recent Green Man Campaign, which has led to Transport for London working to introduce 'green man' pedestrian crossings on some of the most important and dangerous junctions in London, so people can cross safely and easily. Become a supporter and you will be helping us to continue our work to make our streets and neighbourhoods cleaner, greener and safer....and helping us to encourage more people to get out there on foot. As a supporter, you will also receive our regular newsletter, and if you want to get more involved there are other things you can sign up to, like our regular ebulletin for campaigners.
What's more, this summer we've teamed up with Jack Johnson, through his All At Once Community. Join us this summer and Jack will match the money you give us, meaning your impact on our streets will be doubled (see below for details). Jack Johnson also supported us by giving us a stall in the 'Village Green' area at his Hyde Park gig on 2 July - we had a great response, with over 350 people pledging to walk more as part of their working day! For more information about Jack Johnson's work this summer, visit his All At Once Community. How to become a supporterClick here to become a supporter and start giving monthly. Or, you can make your first annual donation online now by clicking here! Matching donations: all donations made to Living Streets before 14th September, as part of the All at Once promotion, will be eligible for a matching donation, from the Johnson Ohana Charitable Foundation. Living Streets will be able to claim this matching donation, up to a maximum of $2,500.
