BackStart and Eurostar show their support

Living Streets, Start and Eurostar have joined forces in a bid to get children walking to school.

Start, the Prince of Wales’s initiative to encourage everyone to live more sustainably and Eurostar, whose Tread Lightly programme opens the way to sustainable travel across Europe, are supporting Living Streets to help get more children walking in London. Thanks to their support, 30 schools across the capital will be able to take part in the Living Streets Walk to School campaign.

The average distance pupils live from their primary school is just 1.5 miles. And while the weather is still mild, we should take advantage and enjoy the outdoors.

Even if you only walk part of your journey, it still makes a difference. How about starting with a five minute stroll and gradually building up? Park and stride is a great idea for children (and adults!) who are not confident enough to walk the whole journey, or if it’s just not possible. It simply means driving some of the way to school, parking up and walking the rest of the way.

And walking doesn’t only have benefits for a child’s health. The minute you make that decision to shun the car in favour of walking, there’s a positive impact on the environment as well with fewer cars and less congestion around the school gates.

So a big, massive thank you for the support Start and Eurostar have provided allowing more schools in London to take part in our Walk to School campaign.
