BackMinister: "third sector partnerships crucial"

Minister:

Minister of State for Transport, Sadiq Khan, today stated that partnerships were the key to turning the Active Travel Strategy from policy into outcomes.

He was speaking at the Living Streets Active Travel conference, the launch event of the new Active Travel Strategy.

Sadiq Khan said the key to the strategy was using its evidence against opposition "from Whitehall to town hall" when trying to implement its recommendations.

The strategy was a joint initiative between the Department of Health and the Department of Transport, which Mr Khan said demonstrated how important it was for a collaborative approach to implementing active travel plans. He said transport should be integral to other plans and that the third sector should be used for bringing the plans to life.

“Third Sector organisations, such as Living Streets, have the skills and expertise that can help turn government policies on active travel into practical outcomes.”

He said that the strategy was an unmissable opportunity for local authorities to work together. "The Active Travel Strategy cannnot be done without the people and organisations here today if we are to reach a future where active government plus active partnerships equal active travel."
