BackLower drink drive limit makes walking safer

Living Streets welcomes Sir Peter North’s review of the drink drive limit, which proposes to lower the limit to 50mg per 100ml, from the current 80mg. Pedestrians are particularly vulnerable to drunk drivers.

We are pleased to see that our views have been acted upon: we made it clear in our responses to 2009's road safety strategy consultation and road safety compliance consultation that 50mg is the most sensible limit for improving the safety of pedestrians.

It would send out a clear message that any drink-driving is unacceptable, and would bring the UK into line with much of the rest of Europe. We now call on the new coalition government to take forward the recommendations in this report to make our streets safer for everyone.

To find out what we think about road safety, read our original response to A Safer Way here.
