BackHave you got the WoW factor?
After being amazed by the artistic talent of pupils around the UK last year, we’re pleased to launch the 2012 Walk Once a Week (WoW) badge design competition!
Walk Once a Week (WoW) is a simple, exciting scheme that helps schools and local authorities to promote walking to school throughout the entire school year. Children get a badge when they walk to school at least once a week for a month, and the kooky designs have become collector’s items in playgrounds across the country. It’s a hugely popular part of the Walk to School Campaign, with over 300,000 pupils involved in the UK.
Each year, our designs are picked from entries drawn by pupils from schools around the UK. This year, pupils have the opportunity to showcase their artistic flair by designing 2012’s badges around the theme of ‘Around the world’. Whether it’s a memory from a holiday abroad, or your favourite place in the UK, the winners of the competition will have their design made into a badge which will take pride of place on the jumpers of thousands of school children across the country.
Tony Armstrong, Chief Executive of Living Streets said:
“This year we are asking pupils across the UK to design WoW badges to fit the theme of ‘Around the world.’ Last year the standard was really high and we imagine that competition will be every bit as stiff this year.
“Walking is one of the best ways to get everyday activity into families’ lives, helping our health and also making sure we’re not contributing to unnecessary pollution and congestion.”
The deadline for receiving entries will be 16 March. For more details and downloadable templates, take a look at our Walk to School Competition Page
