The event is presented by National Charity Living Streets’ through their ‘Step out in London’ project, in association with The Lewisham Rivers and People Project and Lewisham Borough Council. The aim of the event is to demonstrate to people how walking can open your eyes to the many hidden gems that are passed unnoticed every day.

'Step out in London' is a London Councils-funded project that works alongside communities, the local authorities and businesses in London to promote the better use of recently improved walking environments. In recent times several improvements have been made to the northern part of Ladywell Fields including better access, enhanced safety and security and more signage aiding orientation.

The Discovering London weekend aims to offer people a chance to discover, explore and be inspired by the UK’s hidden gems. Discovering Places on 23 – 25 July is part of London 2012 Open Weekend, the annual UK-wide celebration counting down to the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Photo opportunities will be available from all the activities including action shots of the river wading and children watching the puppet show.

Tony Armstrong, Chief Executive of Living Streets said:

“We are really excited to be hosting a family fun day at Ladywell Fields in Lewisham, and hope that we can encourage as many people to enjoy walking routes in their local area. There are so many benefits to walking, not just to make the roads less congested and polluted, but to develop more of a community as you get to know your local area better.”
