BackActive win for Wester Hailes Health Agency.
Wester Hailes Health Agency won the Active Communities Award in the first ever Physical Activity and Health Alliance (PAHA) Active Factor Awards Scheme on Thursday 25th February 2010. The awards were set up to recognise the efforts aimed at increasing participation in physical activity and reducing health inequalities.
The Wester Hailes Health Agency (WHHA) won the Active Communities Award, which we were delighted to see as we recognised their hard work and nominated them. ‘It’s good to walk’, the WHHA walking programme has been using practical tools from the Living Streets Scotland ‘Reclaim Your Streets’ toolkit with the support of the charities Engaging Communities Project. Small but significant changes are now being made on the ground to make Wester Hailes a better place for walking, with new signage and the cutting back of vegetation and overgrown branches. The walking group will be meeting the council in the next few weeks to discuss other options for making their streets more pedestrian friendly.
Two other Living Streets nominated projects were short-listed but did not win, with Gillian Bathgate, School Travel Plan Coordinator for Midlothian Council recognised in the Active Schools Award and The Miley project in Dundee recognised for the Active Environment Award.
